This is a new project emphasizing abstraction and color. It is printed on shaped and prepared panels, giving the work a different feel, and is organized around specific themes such as string (from my string drawings), waves, and other categories from the natural world.

Cubes were the first form I experimented with in shaped mirrors.  I found them to be uncannily illusionistic of space-occupying objects.  As I designed a system for affixing to walls, I noticed this quality especially striking when presented a few inches off the wall and at a slight angle.

Shifting my focus from the cube, I explored the four other Platonic solids.

Recognizing that the physically flat but 3D illusional Cubes and Platonic Gems have sculptural properties, I decided to enrich the experience by introducing actual sculptural aspects.  In this group, I construct volumetric objects by attaching and/or thermoforming layers of shaped acrylic sheet. 

As I worked more with the basic forms, I became interested in deconstructing* them to explore more challenging visual relationships.

I have been working in two materially different practices for a long time. They both start though with geometric forms or patterns and so are closely related. Most of the collaged work explores fusions of my materially distinct processes.

These drawings start as grids made of string, which I have colored with acrylic paint. Once the grid is established I work against the grid by cutting at spots, adding additional string, extension, etc. My intent is to allow more networked and organic abstractions to emerge.

While each piece stands alone, I really like the effect of unconventional groupings. This display format emphasizes the volumetric sense of each object, and itself becomes an aesthetic element.
